If you’re a Sony a7 series owner and have been hoping for an ultra-wide angle lens with a native lens mount, today is your day. Zeiss has announced the Loxia 21mm f/2.8 lens, only for Sony E-Mount. As usual, it’s a manual focus lens with a manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked, making it optimal for shooting video. As usual, the optics promise to be first-rate, with a Zeiss Distagon design of 11 elements in 9 groups. The housing is attractive, robust, and also weather sealed. Like the other two Loxia lenses, the 50mm f/2 Planar and the 35mm f/2 Biogon, the new model has been fitted with 52mm filter threads, so sharing will be easy.
In December, the lens will be available for just under $1500. The 50mm f/2 Planar and the 35mm f/2 Biogon are already available for $950 and $1300, respectively.
