This evening, Fujifilm announced the sixth generation of their popular rangefinder-style camera, the X100. Fitted with a 40.2 megapixel APS-C X-trans sensor and a fixed 23mm f/2 lens (equivalent to 35mm field of view on a full frame sensor), the new X100VI also has in-body image stabilization (IBIS) offering up to 6 stops of shake reduction. As usual, the camera is available with a black or silver-colored body.
The increase in sensor resolution is the most obvious change (up from 26.1 megapixels in the X100V) will not only improve the resolution of still photos, but the X100VI can now shoot 6.2K video at 30fps and 4K video at 60fps and 1080p at 240fps.
Autofocus has been improved with a 425 phase-detection point AF system and an AI adaptive algorithm (of course, they had to say “AI” somewhere), and the camera can capture 20 frames per second at up to 1/180,000th sec. with the electronic shutter.
For those of you who are ready, the camera is expected to ship on Feb. 28th and will cost $1599. Pre-orders are now open at B&H Photo and Adorama, and Moment if you’re closer to the West Coast.
